HOLIDAY SUGGESTIONS

two nice things we did this holidays – or recently – that you might find interesting

  • When Kate’s playschool closed we took the remainder of the toys and items that had not been told and distributed them to the Alex Toy Library and the Johannesburg Housing Company (JHC).
  • The Toy Libary is a corporate social responsibility project of Turner & Townsend Quantity Surveyors that has opened in Alex, in Cape Town and in Durban. Children are allowed to borrow toys for a 2 week period. Many of them do not have any toys of their own.

So if you have toys you want to recycle into a worthwhile community cause – consider this
JHC is a Social Housing Company based in the inner city of Jhb that not only provides housing but a range of community programmes through Makhulong a Matala. They run several crèches in the buildings some of which we have been involved in.

  • We pruned our acacia tree and took the clippings to the Zoo for the giraffes. The zoo is always on the lookout for indigenous tree clippings. It was great for Kate to go with Colin to the Zoo and actually take our trailer into the zoo and feed our tree to the giraffes. She is patiently waiting for it to grow some more !
